Foundations of CNS/ATM
The ICAO Global ATM System requires the adoption of an operational scenario that includes Routes Network, Minimum separation, assessment of obstacle clearance, and CNS infrastructure to meet specific safety and strategic objectives. The course provides a grounding in technology in order to relate your local aviation environment to the ICAO Global Air Navigation Plan and help provide the necessary planning tools to implement it.

* Examine the Guidance Material that includes the Manual on Global Performance of the Air Navigation System (Doc 9883), Global Air Traffic Management Operational Concept (Doc 9854), The Air Traffic Management System Requirements (Doc 9882) and the Global Air Navigation Plan (Doc 9750)
* Discuss available and emerging technology
* C – Communication, including local technologies such as VSAT
* N – Navigation, including in the aircraft, such as T-CAS
* S – Surveillance, including ADS-B and multilateration
* Examine how to start with a baseline of Air Traffic Control without infrastructure and build up from that basis
* How to integrate safety by using Safety Management Systems (SMS)
* Examine how to reconcile the Global ATM concept with strategic business management
